Frequently Asked Questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All conversion happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device and are not stored anywhere.
What Excel formats are supported?
SheetFlip supports .xlsx (Excel 2007+) and .xls (older Excel format) for the Excel → CSV direction. The CSV → Excel output is always .xlsx.
What happens with multi-sheet Excel files?
When you upload an Excel file with multiple sheets, a sheet selector appears. Choose the sheet you want to export — only one sheet is converted to CSV at a time.
What CSV delimiter does it use?
The Excel → CSV export uses comma (,) as the delimiter, which is the standard format compatible with Excel, Google Sheets, and most data tools. Values containing commas are automatically quoted.
Does it preserve formatting?
CSV is a plain-text format that only stores values — no colors, fonts, formulas, or merged cells. For CSV → Excel, the output is a clean .xlsx with values only. Formatting from the original file cannot be preserved in CSV conversions.
